Amazon search not working

Searching via Amazon is not working at the moment.

I'm not sure why, yet. The error they are sending back to us is that we are "throttled" for sending too many requests.

I suspect that is not the real reason, but actually it's because Amazon has changed APIs.

Anyhow... I'm working on it now.

I don't know what "not working" means, but I've found that searching with an isbn-13 doesn't return any results. However, using an isbn-10 (if it's given) returns the proper results.

Lots and lots of Amazon API users are confused too, and hopefully BookMooch is having this same problem which in theory....

"This is Curtis with the Amazon Associates program, I hope you are doing well today.

Looking into your issue, I see that your current API key pair was created as of 2019-09-04 11:26:08 UTC. API keys can take a minimum of 48 hours to provision and be ready for use. "

So let's wait 2 days and see if it Amazon searching magically starts working again. I've "migrated" to the technology they've asked me to.

Definitely appreciate ya. My experience is that Bookmooch author/title searches work most of the time but ISBN searches do not. Amazon searches consistently return nothing and the speed of those empty responses suggest refused API requests. I also note that Amazon has removed the "Customers who bought this item also bought" section for Books (though it still remains for Kindle). Altogether curious and possibly telling given current events.

I have tried numerous times to enter the ISBN number for the book The Dawn Country by Kathleen O'Neal and W. Michael Gear and when I put the number in another book comes up with that number. Any ideas why this might be happening? I have checked my numbers to make sure that I have entered them correctly. I have also tried to put it in by hand and get the same results.

I have tried for several days to enter a book using the ISBN and the title. Neither work. I have tried hand entering it twice and it says it is already on my list. Yet when I look at my list it is not there. Hope this gets fixed soon.

I've been wondering why it hasn't been working, so glad it's being looked into now. Will this mean that the blank pages will get sorted? Or is it just the search facility? As there are lots of blank pages where information isn't filled in...

Is this working now? I am still having trouble adding books.

don't think so - i can't add anything but looking at the "recent" section it seems like other people are having no problems/

Thanks Russell, I was able to add a book by going into the book using unmoochable. The book I wrote about, however, has never been on the site, so that will not work.

Go to the page of a book that exists and you will notice the last 10 digits of the URL is the ISBN. Replace that with your ISBN and hit enter. It has worked for me with new books.

I see I am not alone with the search function difficulty. When I discover an author I like, I search the author's name to see what else might be around - that hasn't been possible for a couple of weeks now. I see others are aware of the problem and I hope it will be resolved soon.

There is a slightly related issue:
I am baffled by the fact that (when the search function was working) so many ebook versions appeared when to the best of my knowledge, we can't / don't mooch or offer ebooks. Sometimes I had to scroll through a few pages before finding paperback versions of the books.

I greatly appreciate bookmooch and hope these issues are easily (and swiftly) resolved.
Thanks.

What if you don't have the ISBN # to search with?

Not Goodreads. They don't compare to Bookmooch. I'm giving it a little more time.

In my opinion, Bookmooch is NOT a competitor of Amazon! It is a COMMUNITY SERVICE! And it is needed especially during a pandemic!! I usually add books as I finish them and currently I can't add to my Inventory.

If anyone wants The Department of Sensitive Crimes by Alexander McCall Smith just let me know. I will receive this thread by email.

Go to Bookmooch browse. Type in the author, look for the book title (don't put the title in with the author) and if it's there, you should be able to "give your copy" and it will list it.

I just found that even if Amazon UK won't recognize an ISBN, I can enter it in the window that says ISBN-DB (Click on "Hand enter a book" to bring up the page.), and from there you can get it listed in your inventory with just a click.

Agreed. I tried to add 4 books myself and gave up.

It's an old problem, but still unsolved. I KNOW Bookmooch has John Sandford books. I just ordered several of them. But when I tried to add my copy of Certain Prey, it keeps saying that no book by that title, author, or ISBN. Honestly!!! I think Amazon just want us to buy the books from them and throw out perfectly good copies we might have.

Frances, I was able to find Certain Prey by using this search http://bookmooch.com/m/s/certain+prey+john/-/0/50/0/-/-/-/-/-/n/-/-/-/-/

Unless books are brand new (i.e. published since Amazon cut Bookmooch off), I'm usually able to find an entry for a book by searching by title if the ISBN doesn't come up.

It's fine when looking to mooch. It's when I try to post the book that the system doesn't work. I do hope John finds a solution!!

You should be able to select whichever one of those copies is closest to what you have and then towards the bottom is a “give your copy” option for you to list it in your inventory.

We and my neighbors at Dumpster rental near me love this book and we were looking for it through Amazon.
